What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology (Kin-easy-ology) is a non-invasive, holistic and complementary therapy that uses muscle feedback to access information about one's health and well being. The Kinesiologist identifies imbalances within the body which could be due to structural, emotional, nutritional or spiritual causes and then works with the client to reset these imbalances. By correcting the imbalance, this enables the body to heal itself and assists one in achieving their maximum potential. For me, the process is like pressing a reset button on your body's internal computer.
Kinesiology is known as the art and science of energy balancing. Grounded in the study of anatomy and physiology, it combines muscle monitoring with the principles of Chinese medicine. It recognises that there are flows of energy within the body that relate to muscles, tissues and organs. These energy flows are assessed by testing the function of the muscles as these reflect the body's overall state of balance.
When Kinesiologists refer to a state of balance, they think in terms of a triad of health. Represented as a triangle, this incorporates mental, emotional and spiritual factors on one side, chemical and nutritional factors on the second and structural and exercise factors on the third. Equal emphasis is placed on all sides of the triangle as muscle testing has revealed that when all aspects are balanced, the best results follow. Anything that is said or suggested by a Kinesiologist in a session is aimed at restoring this balance and creating harmony. Restoring the flow of the client's natural energies assists them to achieve their maximum potential as a human being.
Kinesiologists do not diagnose, prescribe or treat medical conditions or named diseases. Instead, they look beyond symptoms and focus on resetting the body's energies so that its healing opportunity is maximised. A good example is a client that would like to improve their asthma. Instead of focusing on the symptoms of asthma, the kinesiologist would look at what it is that the client would be doing if they were not experiencing these symptoms. The client may want to be able to easily play two basketball games each week, so this is what their sessions would be focused on. The outcome that would most likely follow is that their symptoms would improve to allow those two games to be played each week. Additionally the client may notice a positive "flow on" effect to other areas of their lives as their body's energies are now working in harmony as opposed to causing some kind of resistance.
When the cause of a problem has been understood and one's perception has changed, the mind instructs the body to let go of the physical ailment as it has no reason to remain. Becoming more self aware and seeing things from a wider perspective is exactly what Kinesiology is all about.
It is important to note that Kinesiology is suitable for all ages and is not limited to dealing with ailments. It is a complementary therapy that can be used in conjunction with any treatment or therapy. Energy balancing is a holistic approach that brings a person closer to achieving any goal of their choice whether it is improving health and lifestyle, sporting abilities, better relationships, enhanced learning, increasing self confidence or dealing with life in general - the possibilities are limitless. Sounds interesting doesn't it?
